Description
Classic 6 Metre HANKO III
HANKO III is a masterpiece of Norwegian yacht design, conceived and built in 1955 by the legendary Bjarne Aas at his renowned yard in Fredrikstad for His Majesty King Olav V of Norway. With her fine lines, balanced proportions, and unmistakable elegance, she represents the very best of the post-Olympic Six Metre Classic era. After many years of sailing in Norway and later in the Pacific Northwest, she underwent a meticulous restoration by Six Metre World Champion Eric Jespersen in Canada, transforming her into a modern racing yacht while preserving her original grace. Since then, HANKO III has competed with distinction at major European and World Championships and is consistently admired for both her performance and pedigree.
HANKO III is part of a distinguished classic yacht collection and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a vessel from a knowledgeable collector who has maintained her with exceptional care and expertise.
Highlights
Dig into this ever-vibrant post-olympic sailing class, enjoy the elegance and performance of these sailing-beauties, plan to participate in the always classy and truly stunning European and World Championships at the finest international yacht clubs, and dance on the waves on a relaxing afternoon sail: Go for the Six Metres!
Hanko III, designed by the famous Norwegian designer Bjorne Aas for King Olaf V of Norway in 1955, is a fairly modern Six Metres Classic! After some years with his Majesty at the helm, HANKO III had a long career with various Norwegian owners, before having been taken by an emigrant to the Pujet Sound near Seattle, Washington/USA.
Being sailed regularly as a family boat for more than 20 years in the Pacific waters, she was discovered by her present German owner, bought and towed to Vancouver Island, British Columbia/Canada, to the shipyard of Six Metre World Champion Eric Jespersen, who restored her to perfection and converted her into a true racing machine.
Since her first appearance after the restoration under the Golden Gate Bridge at the North American Six Metre Championship 2016 at the St.Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, she was sailed at the Worlds at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, in La Trinite-sur-Mer, Brittany/France, and even at the Royal Yacht Squadron on the Isle of Wright/UK. Always a stunner, always with good results, and a true masterpiece of Bjorne Aas, in line with her sister ships, World Champion „Dix Aout“, and the very fast Finnish yacht „Astree III“.
Asking price for boat, second mast, trailer, over-complete and almost new North 3Di-sails wardrobe and lots more of equipment is € 125.000. Charter rate for the 2026 Europeans is € 25.000, fully rigged on Lake Genever.
Hanko III is a beautiful example of high-standard design, elegant lines, excellent craftmanship, top restoration and ultimate modern racing gear! Fast, impressive, with outstanding racing results, and highly individualistic, an absolute marvel in the Six Meters Classic fleet.
