Description
About the Elan 350
The Elan 350 was designed by Humphreys Yacht Design and built by Elan Yachts in Slovenia. It won the European Yacht of the Year award in the Performance Cruiser class. At 10.6 metres overall with a beam of 3.5 metres carried well aft, the hull is notably light for its size, displacing 5,350kg with a T-bulb keel drawing 2.15 metres. The design makes no apology for its racing intent.
Under sail, the Elan 350 is responsive and fast. Twin rudders set wide apart give exceptional feel and grip at steep angles of heel; the boat tracks cleanly upwind without a tendency to broach, and in a breeze with the gennaker drawing, speeds of 12 to 15 knots are achievable. The low displacement rewards light-air sailing in particular.
Below decks, the wide beam creates a saloon that is comfortably larger than 35 feet would suggest. The 2-cabin layout provides a forward double, a generous aft double to port and a dedicated heads compartment to starboard, with a well-appointed galley and full-sized chart table with its own seating. The aft port cabin is particularly generous for a boat of this size, with good standing headroom and comfortable berth dimensions. The absence of a third cabin gives the heads considerably more space than the 3-cabin alternative and also gives a large lazarette locker in the cockpit.
Description
Impetuous is an Elan 350 built in 2010 and delivered new to the Solent in 2011. She has remained under single ownership throughout her fifteen seasons and is offered by the broker who has managed her maintenance from delivery and skippered her for eight of those years. That continuity is reflected in the standard of the vessel and the depth of the documentation.
She is MCA coded to Category C but has never carried a paying charter guest. Use has been confined to the owner, owner’s staff and invited guests, always with a professional skipper aboard. Sailing has been almost entirely Solent-based leisure cruising; racing has been minimal.
The hull was stripped back to gel coat in 2020 and received four coats of International Gelshield 200 epoxy. All skin fittings and seacocks were replaced in 2019. The complete standing rigging was renewed in 2020 and all guardwires replaced in 2022. The saildrive diaphragm was replaced this season; fuel tanks were cleaned this season. Engine services have been annual without exception.
Broker’s Summary
Impetuous has been maintained to a higher standard than most privately owned yachts of comparable age, in part because the same person managed the work throughout. The service record is complete from delivery and demonstrates consistent expenditure keeping her in good form. She is ready for sea and needs nothing before sailing. A buyer seeking a Solent-based cruiser-racer with genuine offshore capability and full documentation will find few cleaner examples in this size range.
